Appearance: Though he looks much like his mother in facial appearances, James as his father's blue hair and both of his parent's blue eyes. His normal wear is a green sleeveless shirt and short jeans. When on missions, he wears a protective vest, a modified triple scabbard for his sword: 2 that go horizontal, and one that goes vertical. He also has a small scar under his left eye.

History: After legendary Defenders Mitch and Jenny got married, they soon retired from the hero business once Jenny was pregnant. They moved to Los Vegas where James was born. In order for him to have a normal life, a life that had nothing to do with Mitch's or Jenny's times with the Defenders, they lived in a small tailor and excommunicated anyone that knew of their adventures. This, however, was only delayed. Shortly after James' 12th birthday, Mitch's archenemy, Soloman, discovered where they had lived and attacked James just as he was heading home from school.

To both of their surprise, James was able to fend off his father's rival, but not before getting slashed under his eye withSoloman's sword. When James told his parents about his ordeal, they knew they couldn't live in secrecy forever. They informed James about the Defenders and how they were superheroes. Astonished by the stories of his parents' adventures, James wanted them to train him and become a Defender, but they offered to train him on how to defend himself; they didn't want their son following the dangerous path of a hero.

A few months afterwards, Dr. Smith, commander of the Defenders, offered Mitch and Jenny a chance to come out of retirement and have James be apart of his newest team: the Young Defenders. Reluctant at first, they allowed James to join on the condition that they would accompany him on his first few missions. His curiosity of the Defenders headquarters led him to the science labs, where they tested the superhuman genome known as Project Black. During an unexpected attack on the headquarters, James injected himself with Project Black and gained superpowers, much to his parents' dismay; he did, however, end of saving the day. After a few more months of harsh training and successful missions, James would soon find himself creating and leading the Young Defenders.

Personality: James' attitude is the complete opposite to his parents': willing, curious, and headstrong; James is a unique boy full of potential. He can be rather cocky and arrogant, sometimes even cruel to his enemies, but never to the limit where he's ready to kill. He is always ready to trust someone, even those who have wronged him. His leadership skills isn't up to par to that of his father's, but James always learns from his mistakes 

Abilities: Though not a master like his parents, Mitch is still skilled in different styles of martial arts, stealth, acrobatics, escapology, strategy, swordsmanship, tactician, and marksmanship. Project Black has also given him the powers of intangibility and heat vision. 

Weapons: Just like Mitch, James uses a variety of gadgets which he keeps in the pouches of his protective vest. His most prized weapon, however, is a long, single-edged sword that was long rumored to be Excalibur, but has been confirmed to not be the legendary sword. With the sword, James has the ability to harness his emotions into energy as long as he is in possession of the sword. Depending on the emotional state he is in, the effects of energy he unleashes from the sword varies: if anger, the red energy can harm his opponents and depending how upset James is, the damage varies, if calm, the blue energy can heal almost any fresh wound, if fear, the yellow energy can make any person go into a deep hypnotic hallucination of their greatest fears.

Weaknesses: Inexperienced as a hero has gotten this young man in trouble before, as well as his anger. Though he will make mistakes, his biggest problem is learning from them.
